Niche – Most Common Questions

When getting started with affiliate marketing, many are struggling with choosing the right niche.

Today, I’m going to answer some common questions on niches.

What is a Niche?

It’s a portion of the market you target with a certain type of product or service.

For example, juicing. Here, you are targeting people who want to improve their health, making their own juice or buying already made juices.

*May contain affiliate links. Clicking on the affiliate links will most likely result in the same price you would pay elsewhere or you may get a special offer using those links.

How Do You Make a Niche?

You don’t make one, you choose one. You want to take a look at what people are buying and see if you are interested in any of these products.

Like I mentioned in my article The money is in the Niche, you may want to start with products or services you already use if you are totally stuck and can’t think of anything.

It could be anything. Lighting for the bathroom is a niche. Bed sheets for kids is a niche.

From there you have to decide if you can create at least 50 pieces of content on that topic. If you can’t and you don’t feel like spending too much time researching, you may want to choose something else.

Why is my Niche too Broad?

When you are just getting started as an affiliate marketer, you can’t pick a niche like life insurance. Why? Because of the competition.

Having competition in a niche is a good sign. It means people are already buying. What you have to do is to prove that you are a reliable source of information in your niche. The best way to do that is to narrow down.

You want to be specific to get started. It will help you get some traction, some traffic. Taking the life insurance example, you can narrow it down to life insurance for retirees or life insurance for newborns.

You don’t need to overthink it. Just go more specific on your target. That way, you will get better results.

Once you have written content about your specific niche, you can go broader and target other people within the same niche. For example, you can target new parents with life insurance.

Why is Health and Wellness Not a Niche?

Easy: it’s an industry. It gathers tons of different niches under one big name. It is impossible to create a health and wellness website. It covers way too many topics.

Health and wellness is anything from back pain to yoga. It includes everything for diabetes, for weight loss, for dealing with depression, etc.

Even the topics I mentioned are too broad to get started with. You can easily narrow them down with a specific age group or a more specific problem.

For example, let’s go with yoga. You can narrow down with one type of yoga, like power yoga, hot yoga, ashtanga yoga, prenatal yoga, etc. Then you can narrow down again targeting posture, flexibility, joint pain, etc.

Again, only once you have covered all the topics related to your narrow niche you can broaden and add new topics for the same niche.

How to Confirm Your Niche Idea?

Once you have chosen your niche, you want to make sure people are interested in that niche and you want to make sure people are buying in that niche.

First stop, check your niche idea on Google Trends. Stay away from trends that are going down. Go for something stable or something that tends to go up, even when there are downs.

Look at this graph for affiliate marketing. It’s a stable search term.

The second stop is Amazon. You want to see the top sellers in your category. Let’s go back to our juicing niche and let’s find some juicers.

Just from one search, there are a few best selling juicers and the first one had over 7,000 comments. It’s a good sign that people are buying.

Just take a look at their categories and see if you can get some inspiration for your niche.

You want to make sure that there are many products to promote in your niche. If you are in the digital space, go take a look at the books.

It will be easier to make money with your niche if you have different products to offer.

The next stop is Magazines.com. For this one, I went into the categories section and chose Health and Fitness. There are many search results and you have the option to narrow down your results with 4 other categories.

You can take a look at the first page and read the titles. It often can tell you the kind of topic people want to know more about.

Ok, so we know people are interested in juicing since they are buying juicers. But then what?

Look for affiliate programs. I created an article on that topic here.

Here is a simple way to see if there is anything available for you to promote, other than Amazon.

On Google, you look for your niche+affiliate program.

Here is what I found for juicing.

These steps help you confirm the potential monetization for your niche. Now all you have to do is choose what you want to promote first.

What Are the Most Profitable Niches?

Since most niches have a good potential, know that everything in the Health and Wellness, Relationship and Wealth industries are the most profitable ones. There are tons of products to promote and people are buying.

It also comes with a lot of competition. Make sure you choose something you enjoy and choose a different angle when talking about your niche.

In the end, the most profitable niche is the one you will stick to.

In Conclusion

Keep it simple. Choose something you minimally like, make your research to make sure there are products or services to promote and stick to your niche.

Know that now, in 2021, it can take up to 12 months before you see any results when blogging. That is if you create enough content to get traction from Google and show that you are serious about this.

I strongly suggest that you create a blog even if you want to use Facebook ads to promote your offers. It adds to your credibility.
